- Abstract
This article discusses the use of intra-operative upper GI endoscopy as a tool to identify the site of gastro-jejunostomy (GJ) perforation in patients who have undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. GJ perforation is a serious complication that can require urgent surgical intervention. The article highlights the increasing incidence of GJ perforation and the challenges in identifying the perforation site, particularly in cases of purulent peritonitis. The use of intra-operative upper GI endoscopy is suggested as a useful adjunct in identifying the perforation site and preventing misinterpretation of the anatomy. The article concludes that this technique should be available to minimally invasive surgeons as part of their armamentarium.
