- Abstract
The paper introduces results of empirical research that reveals the formation level of leaders' social-psychological competence and some formative factors. The research has been carried on the basis of E. Payton's (2000) social-psychological competence model, in which the most important three factors are: leadership characteristics, listening skills and self-control skills of a leader. The research revealed that the majority of leaders rate their competence under analysis as low or medium (for example, nearly 40% of the leaders rate their leadership skills as weak). In the discussion of the research it is emphasized that self-assessment level and adequacy of working activities (in this case - managerial activities) act as the regulator of the activities. The research revealed the statistically significant dependence of the analyzed competence on sex, rank of position, experience in managerial work and age. The paper also discusses the formative ways of social-psychological competence.
