- Abstract
Purpose: To investigate effect of preoperative macular structure on postoperative corrected visual acuity (CVA) in retinal detachment with macular involvement after successful retinal detachment surgery. Material and Methods: Nineteen eyes of 19 patients with macula involved rhegmatogenous retinal detachment had pars plana vitrectomy. Central macular thickness (CMT), macular subretinal fluid height (MSFH) and macular structure were analysed with optical coherence tomography (OCT). Healthy fellow eyes were accepted as control group. Results: Preoperative CVA was 1.56±0.67 LogMar, postoperative 3th month CVA was 0.61±0.34 LogMar, postoperative 6th months CVA was 0.46±0.34 LogMar. There were significant increase in postoperative 3th and 6th months CVA (p=0.001). At postoperative 6th month CMT were 179.21±40.46 µm in operated eyes and 212.53±36.47 µm in fellow eyes (p=0.002). There was a correlation between preoperative CVA and MSFH (r=0.512 p=0.025). There were correlations between postoperative 3th months CVA and MSFH, outer retinal corrugation, intraretinal separation, intraretinal cystic changes, IS/OS band disturbance (p<0.05). There were correlations between postoperative 6th month CVA and MSFH, outer retinal corrugation, intraretinal separation, intraretinal cystic changes, IS/OS band disturbance (p<0.05).There were subretinal fluid in 3 (%15.79) patients at postoperative 3th month control. There were cystoid macular oedema in 2 (%10.53) patients, epiretinal membrane in 1 (%5.26) patient at postoperative 6th month control. There was not subretinal fluid in any patient at postoperative 6th month control. Conclusion: Anatomic success and functional success may not be parallel in retinal detachment surgery. Macular structure may be effective on CVA.
