Title
Death of a patriot, or of patriotism?
Abstract
The author reflects on the proclamation of former government official Ngabo Ngawang Jigme of Tibet as patriot. He analyzes whether the declaration is acceptable or not according to national norms based on the word's meaning which pertains to a person's loyalty and patronage to his or her country. With due respect to Tibet's separation from China, he asserts that Ngabo did not "always" spoke or defended Tibet in harmful circumstances, rather acted as pro-China nationalist.
