- Abstract
The article presents information related to ruby and other gem mining from Nanyaseik, Myanmar, situated about 50-kilometer northwest of the town of Mogaung in Kachin State, at the southern edge of the Hukaung Valley. The methods of mining fall within the categories of open-pit and square-shaft. Rubies coming the five mining areas within the Nanyaseik region manifest in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, with crystalline inclusions and oriented rutile needles. Based on microprobe analyses, rubies from this area have traces of vanadium, titanium, chronium, garnet, iron, manganese, zirconium, cobalt, nickel, strontium, yttrium and lead.
