- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents information on new sources of marble-hosted rubies in South Asia. At the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society show in Tucson, Arizona, Dudley Blauwet of Mountain Minerals International, presented a bright red ruby crystal embedded in white marble which reportedly came from the Khash district in Badakhshan, Afghanistan. He indicated that the marble matrix looked more granular than that typically seen hosting ruby from the well-known occurrence at Jegdalek, Afghanistan. Blauwet said that Ahmadabad, one of the original ruby mining areas in the Hunza Valley had been reactivated. After Jim Clainin of JC Mining visited the site and obtaining some ruby production, the company plans to build a road to the area.
