Synthetic Biology: The Intellectual Property Puzzle.
- Authors
Kumar, Sapna; Rai, Arti
- Abstract
The article presents a discussion on synthetic biology. According to the authors, synthetic biology aims to construct and reconstruct life at the genetic level. The Registry of Standard Biological Parts was developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to support the goal of synthetic biologists to create an array of standard, modular gene switches or parts that can be readily synthesized and mixed together in different combinations. The authors state that scientists working on synthetic biology are concerned about the impact of intellectual property to the area.
