SPOTLIGHT: THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION & MANAGEMENT ROUND TABLE OF THE KENTUCKY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION: A FIFTEEN YEAR HISTORY.
- Authors
Brinkman, Carol S.
- Abstract
The article lauds management of Kentucky Library Association. Good administration and management is essential to the successful operation of any organization. However many librarians begin their professional careers with no experience and little coursework in management. Other librarians are promoted into management positions without receiving appropriate training. Additionally, experienced administrators and managers need a way to keep up with cur- rent trends, update their skills, and share experiences with colleagues. It falls to library associations to address these needs through programming and networking opportunities. Efforts to establish a Library Administration & Management Round Table (LAMRT) were initiated in 1989, under the leadership of a steering committee that consisted of Jeff Matthias, Jefferson Community College Library; Gay Perkins, Western Kentucky University Library; Steve Savage, University of Kentucky Libraries; and Mary Vass, University of Kentucky Libraries. As an official round table of the Kentucky Library Association, LAMRT participates in the administration and planning activities of the Association.
