The Need for Lifelong Learning.
- Authors
Schuller, Tom
- Abstract
The author argues in favor of alternative forms of education, specifically the concept of lifelong learning, as a significant aspect of involved citizenship and political participation in Great Britain as of August 2001. He discusses the concept of social capital in the context of the relationship between education and citizenship in Great Britain, the relationship between formal education and active citizenship, and British government policies concerning education. The author argues against the prolonging of initial formal education and offers policy proposals, including the use of individual learning accounts (ILAs) in education.
