EXPERIMENTS IN TOKEN ECONOMIES: A REVIEW OF THE EVIDENCE RELATING TO ASSUMPTIONS AND IMPLICATIONS OF ECONOMIC THEORY.
- Authors
Tarr, David G.
- Abstract
The purpose of this review is to indicate some assumptions and implications of neo-classical economic theory, along with alternative theories, that come to different conclusions, about which we have additional empirical observations on the basis of these experiments. The general areas discussed in this paper about which these experiments provide data are: (i) incentives and related assumptions about economic organization, (ii) the theory of occupational choice and (iii) the theory of consumer behavior. <BR> The intent of this review in citing the above studies is to bring additional evidence to bear on the assumptions and implications of economic theory, especially where alternative theories conflict. It is not the claim of this review that sufficient evidence was presented to resolve all conflicts conclusively. Rather these experiments provide additional information with which more informed decisions may be made regarding the issues raised.
