- Abstract
The article discusses the bilabial trills collected by naturalist Johann Reinhold Forster from the local residents on Malakula Island in Vanuatu and transcribed by Forster and explorer James Cook in 1779. Details on how Forster and his colleagues identified the Port Sandwich language through the data they collected are given. The practices adopted by Forster and Cook to study the language are also mentioned.
