The article reports on the process by which the lost parts of a trio of sonata by British composer Sampson Estwick are recreated. Discussed are some of the details which facilitated the author's recreation, and the reliability or otherwise of the resulting text. The relationship between Estwick's sonata to English composer Henry Purcell's sonatas is explored.
