- Abstract
The article examines the French influence on the reception of the Dutch translation of "De gebroeders Karamazov (The Brothers Karamazov)," a novel by Russian author F. M. Dostoevsky. It compares the reception given to Dostoevsky by German, French and Dutch readers. A discussion of the narrative shifts present in the Dutch translation of the novel is provided. It explores how the early French reception of novel contributed to the reticence of the Dutch people toward Dostoevsky and his novel.
