- Abstract
The article focuses on racial discrimination in biomedical research grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). It states researchers Sam Oh and Esteban Burchard obtained the data from the NIH through a Freedom of Information Act request which found NIH grants were awarded to under-represented minorities at 78-90 percent the rate of mixed-race and white applicants from 1985-2013. It reports the NIH is studying biases that affect peer review and mentoring minority researchers.
