- Abstract
The article examines the role of herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPV) in detecting Trichoplusia ni infestation on greenhouse tomato plants. The HIPV can be exploited in monitoring systems for pest insect. It was found that by using an ultrafast portable gas chromatograph, it is possible to determine emissions of chemicals from plants and track changes in the emission. It is considered that further studies are needed to explore the reliability of HIPV as indicator of plant health.
