- Abstract
Internal migration is an important factor affecting the demographic structure and economy of a country. Internal migration in Turkey in recent years due to basic needs such as job opportunities, education, health services, etc. has an impact on economic growth due to population, labor market, production structure, etc. Therefore, ensuring the economic and social development of regions and managing internal migration in a sustainable manner necessitates the examination of the relationship between internal migration and economic growth. In this study, it is aimed to analyze the impact of internal migration between Level-1 Regions (12 Regions) in Turkey on the economic growth of the regions. In line with this purpose, the effect of internal migration on economic growth is analyzed using spatial panel data analysis methods by using the variables of migration and economic growth in Level-1 Regions for the period 2008-2020. In the empirical findings obtained; no statistically significant relationship was found between the amount of migration received and the economic growth of the region. However, it is possible to say that the increase in the amount of out-migration has a statistically negative effect on the economic growth of the region. In order to reduce the negative effects of the increase in out-migration on the economic growth of the region, it is necessary to develop region-specific remedial policies on issues such as production, employment, investment, education, health, etc. that cause migration.
