- Abstract
Based on a series of life histories of migrant women working in the domestic service, this text aims to explore the potential that emotions may have to study migratory processes. In particular, we analyse the emotional records that emerged in the interactions occurred in the context of the domestic service and to do so we will use the model of Kemper's sociorrelational theory on the distribution of power-status. This analysis will allow us to observe that the scope of household employment is configured as a highly hierarchical and gendered environment in which differences in power and status between domestic workers and employers occur through processes that turn these migrant women into vulnerable, ethnified and inferior. As a final reflection, we will point out the potential that the study of emotions offers for the understanding of migratory phenomena since the emotional dimension is an essential component of social phenomena.
