- Abstract
The article discusses the French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's portrayal of the caberet singer Aristide Bruant in 1890s publicity posters advertising Bruant's singing performances, including the depiction of working class masculinity in the posters. Bruant's efforts to create an identity separate from the bourgeoisie, or middle class, are discussed.
