- Abstract
In order to explore whether bio-based nylon 56 and nylon 6 will age or even degrade under the condition of soil burial, the effects of burial time, water input and activated sludge content on fabric properties were studied. The results show that after 40 weeks of aging in soil without activated sludge at room temperature, the strength reduction of bio-based nylon 56 fabric is less than 15%. Under the conditions of room temperature, 50% activated sludge and 0.5 L/d water input, the strength of the bio- based nylon 56 fabric is decreased by about 35% after 16 weeks. With the further increase of buried time, activated sludge content and water input, the fabric strength no longer decreases. After aging, obvious etching appears on the surface of the fibers, the crystallinity is increased by 3% to 6%, indicating that the aging process mainly occurs in amorphous region. Under the same experimental conditions, the strength of petroleum-based nylon 6 fabric decreases less than 9%, indicating that biological-based nylon 56 fabric is more prone to aging under the condition of soil burial.
