- Title
Failed efforts to thwart Alzheimer's disease raise questions.
- Abstract
The article explores on the real cause of the Alzheimer's disease among older people. Sticky deposits of amyloid protein in the brain are hypothesized to be the one initiating the disease. However, several studies have failed to prove such hypothesis. One study revealed that anti-amyloid compounds failed to perform better than placebo at improving memory. Another found out that the AN1792 vaccine, which intends to clear the brain of beta-amyloid plaque, caused nonfatal brain inflammation.
