- Abstract
The aim of uniting Europe was to create more prosperous, more stable and peaceful continent. Starting as integration of mostly economic nature, several decades later the integration was deepened and developed as political union as well. However, parallel with the process of deepening of the integration was the raise of the Euroscepticism- a process that encompasses the doubts of the citizens and political parties throughout Europe, that question the integration itself or only its nature (when Eurosceptics do not oppose European Union as an integration, but only the extension of its competences and policies). UK decided to leave the European Union after the historic 2016 referendum on its membership in EU. European Union is facing very delicate period, dealing for the first time in the history of one its member to withdraw. This means that new relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom need to be framed. At the same time, in the aftermath of Brexit the future development and nature of the Union need to be reflected.
