An editorial is presented on empowerment evaluation as an approach for health promotion in Australia. Topics discussed include empowerment evaluation, collaborative evaluation and participatory evaluation which are stakeholder involvement approaches to evaluation; empowerment theory, which is about gaining control, obtaining resources and understanding social environment; and the role of a critical friend in empowerment evaluation.
