- Abstract
At universities of the Russian Federation students of the countries of Asia, Africa, the East and the West are trained. Teachers have a task not only to teach students the subject, but also to form their multicultural identity and tolerant attitude towards people of other cultures. The purpose of this article is to offer solutions to some problems associated with the adaptation of foreign students who are temporary educational migrants, the development of their multicultural identity in a student multicultural environment. This process is complicated by the fact that in most Russian universities only two foreign languages are studied: Russian and English. However, not all students are fluent in these languages. This significantly complicates the process of “getting used to” a new socio-cultural environment, since foreign students communicate with each other in extracurricular time in their own language. To solve the set tasks, the constructivist method of research was used. The study of the works of E. Gellner, B. Anderson, E. Hobsbaum allowed to form the theoretical basis of the study, and the use of SMART techniques contributed to the practical implementation of the tasks set by teachers. As a result, it was revealed that classes conducted within the framework of the curriculum and activities in the field of extracurricular activities enable students to demonstrate their cultural identity and contribute to the formation of a tolerant relationship between students. In addition, the exchange of cultural information among students increases mutual understanding and friendship, making the adaptation of students in a new socio-cultural environment much faster.
