- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reveal the views and suggestions of the teachers of social studies on the teaching practice course. Research qualitative research methods were constructed by the phenomenological research design. The study group of the researchers constitutes 12 teachers who carried out the teaching practice lesson of the students of Dokuz Eylul University Social Studies Education Department in 2016- 2017 spring terms. In order to be easily accessible in the selection of teachers, purposeful sampling has been preferred. This study, data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was used for qualitative data analysis methods for data analysis. It is noteworthy that the majority of the teachers surveyed the criticism that the internship period is short and the internship period is not effective enough. In addition, while a significant portion of the teachers indicated that they had positive observations on the behaviors and attitudes of the candidate teachers, some of them think that the motivation of the candidates for the internship is low. Practitioners ranked the main causes of the situation as being the presence of the KPSS test, anxiety about not being able to be assigned and the intensity of the lessons. In addition, the lack of self-confidence in students and the problems of class dominance, which are occasionally encountered in practice classes, have also caused students to express an unwilling attitude towards the internship. In order to solve the problems in the process, consultant teachers and instructors should use more qualified communication with teacher candidates, frequent meetings and techniques such as micro-education. In other words, it is obligatory that the developmental process of teacher candidates should be shaped and monitored in cooperation with the candidate-practice teacher- teachıng staffs
