- Abstract
The dairy cattle has good prospects due to growing demand for food in the country, and Brazilian producers have big challenges ahead, having to produce more and quality. In addition to production techniques, other alternatives such as the use of oxytocin for the milk ejection have been researched. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different doses of oxytocin on milk production of cows. They used 12 crossbred cows (3/8 Gir and 5/8 Holstein), an average milk yield of 9.2 kg / day. All animals were subjected to four treatments, which lasted 7 days of evaluation of milk production held in the morning (6:00 am) and afternoon (16:00). Treatment 1 (T1), cows not treated with oxytocin (control), Treatment 2 (T2), cows treated with 0.1 mL oxytocin (1 IU oxytocin); Treatment 3 (T3), cows treated with 0.4 mL oxytocin (4 IU of oxytocin) and Treatment 4 (T4), cows treated with 0.6 mL oxytocin (6 IU of oxytocin). The use of exogenous oxytocin at the beginning of milking, did not increase the production of milk from cows.
