Philippines: peace deal in its death throes?
Abstract
The article presents an update on peace deal between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). It is stated that Manila's decision to scrap a panel dedicated to giving the MILF greater autonomy in Southern Mindanao has left 11-year peace process at a dead end. According to Stella Gonzales of Asia Times Online, it is Manila's fault that the negotiation ended in failure. She added that the deal created a backlash that sparked the violence.
