- Title
Estimating potential reproductive costs in the survival of a xenosaurid lizard.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses a study on sex-specific reproductive costs in the survival of the viviparous and territorial lizard Xenosaurus grandis grandis in Veracruz, Mexico. Two hypotheses regarding the survival of female and male lizards were tested under the study. A decline in survival of female lizards before and after parturition events was observed, thereby confirming the first hypothesis. The finding that there was no decrease in survival of male lizards during the mating season contrasts with the second hypothesis. The factors contributing to sex-specific trade-off between reproduction and survival and the implications of this trade-off for the demography and life-history of the lizard are explained.
