A literary criticism of the nineteenth century Bengali novels "Rajmohan's Wife," "Debi Chaudhurani," and "Anandamath," by Bankimchandra Chatterjee is presented. It focuses on portrayals of transgressive heroines. The author addresses gendered power relations within Bengali families, commenting on nationalism, women's agency, and social transformations under British colonialism.
