- Authors
Sheridan, Susan
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of several poems by Australian poet Gwen Harwood including "Suburban Sonnet," "In the Park," and "Burning Sappho." Her work is analyzed in light of her experiences as a female poet, her relationships with her editors, and the inequality faced by women in the literary field in the 20th century. Harwood's use of the pen names Miriam Stone and Walter Lehmann is examined, as well as the themes of motherhood and domesticity in the poems.
