- Authors
Maynard, Luke R. J.
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the short story "Sir Bertrand: A Fragment," which has been attributed to Anna Laetitia Barbauld and that appears in the book "Gothic Stories." The story exists only as a fragment and so the author considers the story's conclusion and its place in the canon of supernatural Gothic fiction. The author discusses the existence of a B-text of the story that is called "Sir Bertrand's Adventures in a Ruinous Castle." The A and B-texts are compared as is the authorship of the stories.
