- Abstract
New record of the hairy-legged hematophagous bat Diphylla ecaudata Spix, 1823 (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) in Colombia. Diphylla ecaudata is a rare species known from only three previous records in Colombia, in the states of Magdalena (in 1900), Vaupés (1966) and Meta (1970). Here I present a new record of the species in Colombia. A single adult male was captured in August 2013 at about 03:00 h in the morning in nets that were set near a chicken coop in the municipality of Leticia, Amazonas state, in southeastern Colombia In this region, chickens and pigs are often biten by hematophagous bats, especially by Desmodus rotundus. This record adds to others from the Amazon Basin and helps to fill a gap in the known distribution of the species.
