- Abstract
In this study, mixed convection through a horizontal channel having a squared cross section is investigated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. Bottom surface of the channel is exposed to a uniform heat flux, side surfaces are insulated and adiabatic, and upper surface is expose to surrounding fluid. Governing equations (mass, momentum and energy) defining the problem are solved numerically. Using the temperatures obtained from CFD results, avarege Nusselt number distribution throught the channel is calculated, and compared with experimental results. Avarege Nusselt number distribution is investigated by using the inverse Greatz number scale. Besides, velocity vectors and temperature contours of the flow are presented at different points on the x-y axis throughout th echannel and it is determined that the flow has proporties of a developing flow. It is observed that heat transfer in laminer mixed convection increases evidently compared to that in forced convection. The results obtained with the CFD method are in agreement on the experimental results.
