A literary criticism of the novel "Lady Audley's Secret," by Mary Elizabeth Braddon, is presented. Topics include the use of a railway guide by the character Robert Audley to plan a train trip in the novel, the relation of modernity to time in the novel, and comic literature that satirized the difficulties of reading railway timetables.
