- Abstract
The article discusses the appointment of cabinet officers. Particular focus is given to the U.S. government and the political considerations which influence presidential appointments, both at the beginning of a presidential term and during it. Cabinet appointments made by former U.S. president Jimmy Carter in 1979 are also discussed. Factors concerning cabinet selection include the president political resources, the relations between the president and previous cabinet officers, and the time within an administration.
