- Title
Will direct thrombin inhibition change the boundaries of oral anti-coagulation?
- Authors
Lomas, O.; Argyle, R. A.; Prendergast, B. D.
- Abstract
In this article the author discusses the change of the boundaries of oral anti-coagulation due to direct thrombin inhibition. He says that since thrombin is the final enzyme of the clotting cascade, it represents an excellent therapeutic target. The author also comments on the indications for anti-coagulation like the prevention of stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF), treatment of venous thrombo-embolic disease and thrombo-prophylaxis for mechanical heart valves.
