- Title
Optimizing care in obese lung cancer patients undergoing lobectomy: analysing complications by surgical approach.
- Authors

- Abstract
A recent analysis of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons database compared video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and open thoracotomy for lobectomy in obese lung cancer patients. The study found that VATS was associated with reduced postoperative complications and shorter hospital stays. However, open surgery may still be necessary in certain cases, such as loco-regionally advanced disease or dense pleural adhesions. The authors suggest that analyzing differences in postoperative complications between surgical approaches could help refine management strategies and improve care. Specifically, they recommend providing details on the specific complications that drove the difference in major cardiopulmonary complications between VATS and open surgery.
