- Abstract
Based on the long-period data series of the Nemunas River runoff, which were approximated by S. Kolupaila in 1930, this paper examines the relationship between the river runoff and an average air temperature of the winter (December--February) season. An inverse correlation between the river runoff and air temperature was found. According to the air temperature and precipitation of the winter period as well as the river runoff of the autumn period, empirical regression models were created for the winter period runoff of the Nemunas River. It was established that the hydro-meteorological conditions typical for the last two decades, often associated with the global warming caused by anthropogenic impacts, were also observed at the beginning of the last century, when the effect of human activities on climate was likely less significant.
