The article presents the author's experience when he took part in a medical outreach to 450 inmate patients in Africa. He mentions that the physicians' enthusiasm about serving the needy waned because of patient frustration with the medical service. The patients had high expectations that the doctors could solve all their problems. As a family doctor, he also felt the same frustration and realized that physicians have to look not only at their own interests but also at the interests of others.
