Reflections on the role of the MJA as we begin a new year.
- Authors
Barbour, Virginia
- Abstract
The Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) reflects on its role as a medical journal and its relationships with authors, reviewers, and the wider Australian community. The MJA aims to inform health policy and influence medical practice in Australia by publishing high-quality research and commentary. They have updated their instructions for authors and reviewer guidelines to provide a constructive and collaborative process. Additionally, the MJA advocates for health and society nationally and internationally, supporting causes such as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament and addressing the threat of nuclear war and the climate emergency. The first issue of 2024 covers topics such as the Israel-Gaza conflict, the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, and the importance of cultural humility and cultural safety in healthcare.
