- Abstract
It is an accepted fact that the quantum of savings and size and pattern of investments by and large, defines the rate of economic growth of any society while investment is the sin-qua-non of the economic development, be it from industry, services, priority sector or others. Horticulture is considered a successful source of income which can boost-up investments in industrial securities, thereby, play a leading role in economic development. But, it depends largely on the topography and awareness level. Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh is known for production of horticulture particulary apple all over the country. The horticulturists are very well-off due to horticulture production but their investment level is quite inadequate and not effective. The horticulturists do not invest in industrial securities as they have no knowledge and are not aware of the merits of investment in them as the present study reveals. For encouraging their investment contribution in industrial securities, there is a need to make them aware about the advantages of these securities.
