- Abstract
This article discusses a case of terbinafine-resistant extensive tinea corporis caused by Trichophyton indotineae, a fungal pathogen first described in India. The authors emphasize the importance of dermatologists being alert to terbinafine-resistant tinea and considering the presence of T. indotineae for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. They present a case of a pregnant woman with disseminated skin lesions that were successfully treated with itraconazole. T. indotineae is morphologically and genetically similar to other dermatophyte fungi but shows high resistance to terbinafine. The most effective treatment for T. indotineae infection is currently itraconazole. The emergence of this new species poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, particularly in pregnant patients.
