- Title
COMMENTARY: THE BALANCE OF PAYMENTS AND THE SAVINGS GAP.
- Authors
Weale, Martin
- Abstract
The article features the balance of payments deficit and savings gap of Great Britain for 2007. Based on the national accounts of the country, it shows that it has a running balance of payment deficit of 5.7% of its gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2007, matching the record deficit incurred in 1988/1989. It revealed that such balance of payments deficit can be a symptom of economic imbalances indicating that there is something wrong with the country's economy which can be explored by understanding the balance of payments are equal to the gap between domestic investment and national savings.
