- Abstract
A literary critique is offered for the novel "The Brothers Karamazov," by the 19th-century Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky, highlighting its engagement with themes of theodicy, metaphysics, and Christian aesthetic utopianism. The character Ivan's criticisms against Christianity on the grounds of theodicy are particularly addressed and countered. The author concludes by asserting Dostoevsky's primary theme that active love in the face of brokenness leads to redemption.
