- Abstract
The article presents literary criticism of the books "Daniel Deronda" and "The Lifted Veil" and the poem "A Minor Prophet," all by George Eliot. Particular focus is given to the texts' depictions of the study of phrenology and its relationship to foreknowledge of the future. According to the author, Eliot was critical of efforts at physiological determinism. Topics discussed include visionaries, stereotypes, and eugenics.
