- Abstract
Gender minorities have historically been discriminated against in most parts of the world, although this reality has recently changed. This article aims to identify Colima´s society attitudes towards gender minorities in three dimensions: work, family and health, as well as their correlation with some demographic segments. The Instrument to Measure Attitudes Towards Homosexually Oriented Persons (IAPOH) was administered to 420 subjects in Colima, Mexico 2022. Among the main results, we found that in Colima, there is a good acceptance towards gender minorities. However, through multivariate statistical analysis, the similarity and dissimilarity in behaviours and characteristics of the participants suggest three clusters. Cluster 1 shows a neutral stance on the acceptance and rejection of minorities. Cluster 2 presents the most accepting profile, and Cluster 3 reflects negative behaviour. This leads to the conclusion that there is greater neutrality in subjects with a high level of education. Likewise, a relationship exists between greater acceptance and being woman and young. At the same time, rejection is more frequent among middle-aged subjects (40-49 years old) and those with low levels of schooling (primary, secondary or technical).
