- Abstract
The article examine the use of the concept of dignity by the U.S. Supreme Court to explain why states may not be subjected to certain kinds of lawsuits. Topics discussed include conceptualization of the idea of dignity; state's obligation to respect the human rights of its citizens; state's obligation to promote human rights under international law; and the legal philosophy behind the concept of dignity.
