- Abstract
The concept of the evangelizing mission of the Church includes both the imperative to make an announcement as well as an attitude of dialogue. In this way we can move beyond the counter-position of dialogue and announcement that characterized the initial reception of the conciliar message so as to avoid the idea of mission as proselytism and that of dialogue as implicit relativism. The theological-biblical category of "reign of God" and its relation with the essential nature of the Church ground the prospective of evangelization conjoined with the philosophical-theological principle of dialogue. The unicity of salvation and of the Church opens up to the varieties of the actions of God in the history of mankind within religions and cultures, offering them foundation and interpretation. The encounter between diverse cultures can be resolved in different ways: assimilation, peaceful coexistence, interaction-contamination, all of which appear inadequate for the realization of a harmonic correlation among them because they do not heal tensions and conflicts. Interculturality appears to be the most credited, plausible and practical way forward when it is understood as the dynamic that tends to yield a real integration capable of producing conditions for sharing life in a transformative process characterized by solidarity.
