- Title
"'Tis set down so in heaven, but not in earth": Reconsidering Political Theology in Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure."
- Authors
Goossen, Jonathan
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the play "Measure for Measure" by William Shakespeare, and compares Puritan religious and political ideology to the opinions of the character Duke Vincentio, who the author argues combines private sin with public law. The author suggests that the character of Isabella favors a separation between church and state, and between temporal law and personal faith, and argues that the Duke and the character Angelo are radical Protestants.
