The universe was constituted by 163 older adults of the aforementioned health area, the sample consisted of 60 patients with a diagnosis of subprosthetic stomatitis, based on intentional sampling. A form created by the authors was used for data collection, and absolute and relative frequencies were used. Results: of the affected patients, females predominated (66,7 %) and the 60 to 69 years' age group (63,3 %), grade II subprosthetic stomatitis (73,3 %) was the most frequent. Lesions in the middle palate (50 %) and poor oral hygiene (51,7 %) predominated. The 76,6 % of the older adults had a low self-perception of oral health.
