- Abstract
This article examines the origin of the suffix "-we" in Macedonian and its usage in other Balkan Slavic languages. While the Slavic origin of the suffix has been questioned, the article presents arguments for a Turkish or mixed origin. The suffix is well-integrated into the Slavic inflectional system and is commonly found in languages that were once part of Turkey. The article suggests that further research is needed to confirm these findings and explores the occurrence of the suffix in other Balkan languages and Judezmo. Additionally, the article discusses the use of the suffix -ge in Albanian, mainly in dialects, and its influence from Slavic and Turkish languages. It concludes that the origins of the suffix -ge cannot be definitively determined due to the blending of elements from different origins in the Balkans.
